Let's talk about anxiety!

Introduction

Some may find this topic a primary mental health issue, but most of us don't know what anxiety is!

If you are someone who suffers from anxiousness, then you must know what it feels like, how it affects your life, how can we overcome the feeling of anxiety, and why we should try to overcome it.

Before COVID-19, I knew little about anxiety, sometimes I didn't even know I was dealing with anxiety and it was after the Coronavirus lockdown that I started educating myself about mental health aspects because I had seen changes in my life emotionally, socially, and physically.

What is anxiety?

Anxiety is a feeling of worry, nervousness, and unease. It can happen to anyone—it’s just another word for what we call the “worries” or “anxieties” that everyone experiences from time to time.

You might feel anxious when you think about having a baby because you don't want your life to change so much! Or maybe it's because there are so many things that could go wrong during pregnancy and childbirth (and even after). Anxiety can also come from other sources like schoolwork or relationships—maybe someone made fun of something you did online recently; perhaps one of your friends has been acting weird lately; maybe something happened at work today that made everyone angry... the list goes on!

What are the symptoms of anxiety?

Anxiety can be a troublesome thing to deal with. It's not always easy to know what's causing your anxiety, but there are some common signs that you may suffer from it:

  • Sweating

  • Trembling or shaking

  • Racing heart rate (heart palpitations)

  • Dizziness/nausea/diarrhea

These symptoms could also include chest pain, or feeling like you're dying. If this is often happening and it doesn't go away by itself, then it might show an anxiety disorder called "panic attack" or "phobia". Overthinking can also be a cause of anxiety, and we must avoid it.

Conclusion

There is no easy way to tackle anxiety, but there are ways you can help fight back. It's essential that you don't just treat the symptoms of anxiety, but also work on building up your confidence and self-esteem by doing things that make you happy. If you worry too much about what other people think of you, then remember they're only human too!
