The Dark Side of Overthinking you didn't know.

By Edisther.

During the period of my depression, my friends used to tell me that I overthink all the time. I would always deny that until after therapy, i realized that overthinking had been a vital contribution to my depression.

To be honest, I didn't really know I used to overthink. Most of the times, I just had a lot of confusion in my mind that any conjuring thoughts about my life just made the weight in my shoulders heavier.

In my opinion, overthinking is when we dwell too much on thinking about an issue that doesn't exist that we start to worry and feel anxious.

Most of the times, we don't even know we overthink until the problem to our overthinking has been pointed out or solved, realization hits you hard.

One thing I've realized is overthinking is the strong root to depression, I didn't recognize this at first, no one does. But after going through depression, that is the first thing your realize after rejuvenating.

Overthinking will start crawling around your mind like a thief.

Firstly, It will play with your mind, putting that pressure into thinking that something you are going through is your fault.

It will generate problems that don't even exist adding more to the agonizing weight of your problem.

Second, it will challenge your personality wanting you to feel insecure about yourself or even making you feel you are the problem.

The next thing it will kill your happiness, the worry that turns into anxiety will grow, eventually bursting the bubble of happiness remaining.

Even though, we can't overthink 24/7, the moments when we have a smile on our face is temporary because we have found a negative solution. When the happy moment tarnishes, the anxious pain grows deep. That is one dark thing about overthinking.

We will often vent our anxieties in dreadful ways thinking that it is the positive route yet when it disappears, we are depressed that the thoughts are still lingering.

Overthinking doesn't have to start on a huge problem you just experienced, it can be anything small for instance, a failed school test or being judged for who you are etc...

There is always a stage ahead of overthinking waiting for you, from playing with your thoughts to changing your personality eventually killing your happiness.

Overthinking will lead to depression. That is when your now locked in a cage of darkness, it doesn't mean you can't get out of the cage but finding the key to open is another journey.

There is a quote that says, "If the challenge exits, then so must the solutions".

When you seek advice about overthinking or anxiety, the majority of the answers will be meditation, exercise or just try to regain spirit by doing your hobbies.

So, how can we stop overthinking?

"Build positivity in Yourself"

Whenever you feel like the dreadful thoughts are consuming your mind, always try to think of all the good things of why you were happy before and what's the barrier blocking you from being happy.

People go through different hurtful experiences hit by different epicenters, so most of the time when you think about the good things to why you were happy, you'll be hit by other challenging thoughts trying to push you down.

Try and count your blessings.

Name all the things in your life that you are grateful for and why you are blessed to have such a life instead of creating problems that aren't around.

Journal them down if that's what you like or do it through meditation. You don't even have to go far, start with the little things. For example, I am waking up each and everyday then why should I feel sad when there's a lot of goals and positivity to spread.

CONCLUSION.

Honestly, it's never easy but remember struggle is part of the process we all go through in order to mature, as long you build it in yourself that you choose happiness, there is hope on the way.
